Transit

A transit bus sponsored by the Municipal District of Spirit River No. 133 transports passengers from Spirit River and Rycroft to Grande Prairie every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  Passengers 16 and younger must have signed permission by Guardians to ride. The bus goes with a minimum of 1 passenger. Book your seat months in advance, or just 24 hours in advance. Medical appointments are priority booking. Contact the MD office at 780-864-3500 to book.

Pick up locations in Spirit River:

The MD of Spirit River office at 8:30 a.m.

Pleasantview Lodge at 8:35 a.m.

Pick up in Rycroft at 8:45 a.m.

The transit bus is now operating on Fridays to transport people from Spirit River to Rycroft and back every half  hour for a $5.00 fee.

Summer Bus Tours

Every summer the bus takes passengers on tours of the Peace Country. Experience all that this beautiful region has to offer.

Last summer's successful trips included:

  • A day discovering our prehistoric past at the Philip J. Currie Museum in Wembley
  • A unique shopping experience in Grimshaw, including a fabulous lunch at the famous Krooked House
  • A trip to Falher to visit the World's Largest Bee, the 30 ft high Honey Capital Slide, a newly opened butcher shop, Smoky Gardens at Watino and a last stop at the popular Valley Bee Cafe
  • A ferry-ride to the beautiful Town of Peace River to visit 12-foot Davis, walk along the trails at Riverfront Park and experience the breathtaking views from the Sagitawa lookout on Judah Hill
  • A scenic trip to Dunvegan; a historical site offering fresh market gardens, natural trails and the opportunity to learn about the rich history of the area
  • A family-focused day at Muskoseepi Park in Grande Prairie to play a round of mini-golf, enjoy ice-cream, run around the splash park or tour the Grande Prairie Museum to learn about the pioneer past of the area
  • A visit to our neighbours across the border in Dawson Creek, BC for a photo-op with the Mile 0 sign of the World-Famous Alaska Highway; a tour of the art gallery and stops at various historical sites

Northern Spirit Light Show

Every Christmas the bus takes passengers to the Northern Spirit Light Show in Evergreen Park, Grande Prairie to view the beautiful Christmas light displays. The bus goes through the show twice, giving passengers the opportunity to switch seats and ensure the best experience possible. This year, after the ride through the lights, passengers were treated with free hot chocolate and apple cider. Get into the holiday spirit and bring your loved one on a trip filled with Christmas joy.
