Residents may apply for dust control on an annual basis each Spring. Calcium Chloride is used at a rate of 2.5 litres per square meter, subsidized at 50% by the Municipality. The primary intent of the Municipal District of Spirit River #133 Bursary program is to enhance the future of individuals within the Municipal District of Spirit River #133 by recognizing outstanding leadership qualities and Community involvement of students, to encourage these students to pursue further education, and to thereby enhance their ability to make meaningful contributions to their communities.

If you are a registered landowner (or their authorized agent) and you wish to create two or more lots from a single parcel of land, you must receive approval prior to subdividing.
MMSA - Mackenzie Municipal Services Agency in Berwyn AB Canada (MMSA) is the Subdivision Authority for the MD. MMSA is responsible for processing all subdivision applications within the municipality. You can contact MMSA for more information on the subdivision process and how to apply at:

No. The MD does not require businesses to apply for business permits.
The MD does not operate a bulk water station but there are local contractors who provide water-hauling services. The MD is currently working on compiling a list of local contractors that will be published on the MD website and social media pages.
Before burning within the MD, you must call the MD Office at 780-864-3500 during regular office hours, to notify us of your intent to burn. This includes burning on weekends and holidays. Our office is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 4:30, closed on Statutory Holidays.

A transit bus sponsored by the Municipal District of Spirit River No. 133 will be taking passengers from Spirit River and Rycroft to Grande Prairie every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Passengers 16 and younger must have signed permission by Guardians to ride. The bus goes with a minimum of 1 passenger. Book your seat months in advance, or just 24 hours in advance. Medical appointments are priority booking. Contact the MD office at 780-864-3500 to book.

Assessment and tax notices are mailed out at the end of May and are due on September 15th annually. All assessments and tax notices are deemed to have been received seven (7) days after mailing within Alberta and fourteen (14) days outside of the province.
A 2% penalty will be applied on any outstanding taxes on October 15th, November 15th and December 15th of the tax year. A 10% penalty will be applied on January 15th of the following year.
All highways within the MD are under the jurisdiction of Alberta Transportation and are maintained by LaPrairie Group. Please contact LaPrairie Group at 780-765-3874 to report any dead wildlife on the highways or for any other highway-related inquiries.
The Secure Energy Landfill located at SW 31-77-5W6M
(Get Directions) is open to MD Ratepayers only.
You must have a Landfill Usage Card to use the Secure Energy Landfill. To obtain a card please stop by the Municipal District of Spirit River No. 133 office and we will issue you a personal use Landfill Card. If you have any questions please contact us at 780-864-3500 or mdsr133@mdspiritriver.ab.ca. Residents will be asked to verify their name and land location upon entering the landfill site.
